Dealing with Sadness and Depression

So this is going to be crazy, but I'm changing the order this week mainly because I am writing on my phone right now and the Monday post I want to do requires pictures from my laptop. Call me lazy but it is 3 am and I am cozy in bed and don't feel like going to my desk, oops?

So that being said here we are with a health related post. This is actually going to be a mental health related post. I wanted to take a second to talk about depression. I have suffered with depression on and off for many years. It isn't something I readily talk about but I thought that just going into it a little bit might be able to help someone going through something similar.

I have been really good for a long time so i feel like it makes it harder when you feel down. I don't know if it is normal, but it is normal for me. For me, when something bad happens I start feeling what I felt when I was deep in depression. Now, I have gotten good at ignoring that feeling 99.6% of the time but there are some times that it just worms it's way in. This happened to me recently when I got turned down from the Voice for the second time.

What I wanted to talk about is what you can do for yourself and what you can do if a loved one is going through it.

For me there are a few sure fire things that help me.  I know that there are a lot of people that say that lying in bed and letting depression consume you is awful and while I agree, I think that sometimes giving yourself a day or two to just let yourself decompress can be incredibly helpful. If you see someone depressed in bed, give them a day or two. I have had my parents force me out of bed and though I eappreciate the though so much, it isn't always the best at the time. Another thing that works to combat it quickly is to put on your favorite happy music and dance. It changes your mood almost instantly and ya makes you feel better. Motion creates emotion. One thing that can help is eating your favorite food. Now, I don't mean emotionally overeating. I mean do something like take yourself to your favorite lunch or make your favorite dinner. It is something that releases endorphins in your brain and improves your mood. Probably my favorite thing to do is watch YouTube videos. When I am down I like to look for new people I haven't watched before or find videos from my favorites that I haven't seen before.

What do you do to deal with sadness? Please let me know because I am always looking for new things to add to my list and yes, it is a real list so that I always have something good to do when I am sad. Sorry for the heavyness of this post I just thought that it was something I was going through and that it could potentially help other people.

Top 5 Tuesday: Top 5 Shows for a Sick Day

As I sit here slightly under the weather and watching Gossip Girl on Netflix I thought what a better time than to talk about my top 5 favorite shows for a day in bed.

Number One: Gossip Girl
This show is addictive. I have see. Every episode but I always love going back. Today I started at the beginning. It's a fantastic teen drama but there is also a mystery.

Number 2: Keeping Up With the Kardashians or any other Kardashian show
Say what you want but I'm a convert. I love this family. The show is the perfect hilarious, mindless entertainment that is perfect for when you are feeling under the weather.

Number 3: Gilmore Girls
This is my all time favorite show. I have seen every episode ten times and I honestly believe that Lorelai Gilmore is the best tv character ever. I am still not over the end of this show.

Number 4: How I Met Your Mother
This is my favorite comedy. Sadly this show is coming to an end just like some of my other picks but this is always the best if you need a laugh. And Neil Patrick Harris is a fantastic human.

Number 5: Grey's Anatomy
If you are looking for never ending drama and characters you can't help but fall in love with, this is the show for you. Although I am mad at them for killing off my favorite character, don't worry, no spoilers, I have always had this as a staple favorite.

So what are some of your favorite shows or movies for when you aren't feelings great? I'd love to know and check them out!

Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow!

iPhone 5c: Tech Tuesday

Hello blog friends how was your Monday? Mine was busy but enjoyable. Today I wanted to take a few minutes and write about my newest love, my iPhone. A week ago Sunday I upgraded out of the stone age and got my first ever smartphone. Now, I know what you are thinking, "I didn't think there was anyone left that still owned a flip phone." Well, there are. Me and 7 other people still had flip phones and got together to commiserate about it monthly. All joking aside, I was very excited to upgrade to a new phone.

I was planning on getting the iPhone 5. I had been previously led to believe that the 5c was not as good of a phone as the 5. It turned out that after further research I learned that the two phones are exactly the same, but the 5c was made with a colored, plastic backing instead of the traditional metal. Being the complete girl that I am, I wanted to get a phone my favorite color and behold, my blue iPhone 5c.

The first night I had it I quite possibly spent 10 hours on it and forgot to sleep. I am neither confirming nor denying that fact ;) Coming from such a basic phone, anything I got would have been an amazing upgrade but I feel confident that I got the best phone for me.

Obviously it is hard for me to review it because coming from a very, very old phone with no features, everything on the 5c seems amazing. One thing that I love is the camera. As an avid photographer and videographer, the ability to have a good quality, 8 megapixel camera with me at all times is fantastic. This eliminates the need to carry the 10 megapixel "every day" I used to have with me at all times. The camera is clear as can be, has great focus, and some of the most impressive depth of field I have seen on a lens of its class.

It wouldn't be an iPhone review without mentioning Siri. I absolutely love being able to tell my phone to do something and have it done. I am the kind of person that makes lists for everything and uses calendars religiously. Being able to tell Siri to schedule something and not having to do it myself is amazing. Also sometimes I use it as pure entertainment. If you haven't asked Siri, "knock, knock," yet, you are missing out.

One other thing that I love SO MUCH is how much you can personalize your phone. I never had the option of changing ringtones to anything custom and my old camera was so bad that taking pictures for my background was not a good idea. Now when someone calls me the chorus of "Still Into You" by Paramore plays, texts play the beginning notes of "Thinkin Bout You", and my lock screen is the lovely Ed Sheeran. I have left the background as the one that came with the phone because i really like the blue to green gradient dots.

I have had the most amazing time downloading way too many apps and spending way too much time on them. I started with the current classic, Candy Crush. I wasn't a huge fan in all honesty. Temple Run Two is a different story. I am obsessed with this game. Any time I have some downtime, I am most likely playing it. There are also a bunch of apps that are great for more productive things than gaming. There is an app for my bank account which I love. Run keeper is fantastic. I used to have to use my iPod and my Nike+ sensor in my shoe but the GPS works much better. I may be just a tad addicted to the ebay app but I am also just a tad bit addicted to Ebay. The EBay design on the phone is streamlined and efficient and to my surprise I believe I prefer it over using my laptop to shop. I have all of my social media in one place and I am finally getting to use Instagram!!! This is very exciting to me seeing as I have never been able to use it until now. Also Kik is fantastic for talking to friends without using up texts.

Overall I absolutely love my new phone. There are only 2 negatives that I can even think of and they are not the fault of Apple. One is that the screen is ridiculously hard to keep clean. Seriously, it isn't possible. Second, because of the plastic design, cases for the 5 and 5s do not fit the 5c and has made it harder to find a case that I love. Besides that this phone is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

Much love,
Kelsey <3
